July and Holidays...Julio y las vacaciones.

Finally July came and we can have a rest after so many exams at the end of the course. But what do we
 know about July? Come with me and have a look! Its gemstone is the Ruby and the flower is a Larkspur. July is one of the hottest months of the year, and it´s the seventh month according to the Gregorian calendar.
 It was the fifth month in the early calendar of the ancient Romans who called it Quintilius, which means fifth. A Roman Senate renamed it to Julius (July)in honour of Julius Caesar, who was born on 12 July. The Anglo-Saxon names for the month included Heymonath or Maed monath, referring respectively to haymaking and the flowering of meadows.
Anniversaries:
During this month registration of births, marriages and deaths began in Britain as well as first fingerprints used for identification, equal voting rights granted to women...The British rule ended in Hong Kong after 99 years or Apollo 11 landed on the Moon and Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon.

Por fín llegó Julio y podremos disfrutar todos de un merecido descanso tras tanto examen y tensión de fin de curso. Pero ¿qué sabemos de Julio? Como vengo haciendo en los últimos meses, echemos un vistazo a este mes. Su piedra preciosa es el rubí y su flor la Espuela de caballero. Según el calendario gregoriano Julio es el séptimo mes y el Senado Romano lo renombró Julius (July) en honor de Julio César que nació en este mes. Las principales tradiciones de este mes incluyen las famosas regatas de Oxford, el censo de los cisnes del río Támesis, la festividad de S. James, patrón de los peregrinos...Es interesante saber que durante este mes se produjeron hechos importantes como el registro de nacimientos, bodas y muertes en Gran Bretaña, o el uso de las huellas dactilares para la identificación, el derecho de voto para las mujeres, el cese del gobierno británico en Hong Kong o la llegada del primer hombre, Neil Armstrong, a la luna.
